The Fourth of July is right around the corner and temperatures are rising. Hot summer days just scream for ice cream and other cool refreshments. DTLA offers some tasty ways to get your chill thrill – from classic ice cream to European-style gelato, cold brewed coffee, iced lattes, soft serves, and other tempting treats. Named Best Gelato by LA Weekly in 2019, Gelateria Uli is gearing up for the 4th of July and taking pre-orders for three summertime frozen pies! Choose from three gelato flavors topped with vegan caramel and sprinkled with your favorite Speculoos cookie crumbs, with a crust made from Uli’s signature waffle cones. Gelateria Uli was founded by Uli Nasibova, who’s originally from Baku, Azerbaijan. Uli opened her gelato shop in 2014 with the goal to make European-style ice cream, which has lower fat and air content than the American variety. Uli personally creates all recipes and sources the best possible ingredients for a taste treat that can’t be beat.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is open for delivery and walk-up service, offering a full menu of classic and vegan ice creams. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream started in the spring of 2008 out of a buttery yellow truck on the streets of NYC. The founders set out to revive the classic American ice cream truck and the art of traditional ice cream making, using ingredients perfected by nature, not science. Billing itself as “LA’s finest soft serve ice cream,” Little Damage is a small family owned business that draws its inspiration from the rich cultural fabric that makes Los Angeles special. Rather than offering a conventional selection, Little Damage offers a rotating menu of unique recipes that allow you step outside of your comfort zone and get a little adventurous, such as their famous charcoal cone. At least one vegan option is always be included in the rotation to accommodate those who are dairy free.

The bright, spacious Arts District Salt & Straw scoop shop is an outpost of the popular ice cream concept from Oregon, known for inventive flavors and farm-sourced ingredients. The founders chose the name Salt & Straw because the ice cream is handmade, in small batches, the way ice cream was made traditionally. Back in the day, ice cream makers used rock salt to make it freeze, then it was packed in straw to keep it cold. Dairy-free options are available. Order online for local pick up or delivery.

Originally opened as Los Angeles Chinatown’s first specialty cafe back in 2010, Chimney Coffee House has been constantly evolving to better serve the community and to be a destination for creatives, professionals, and families alike. Go Take A Hike: LA’s Best Trails & Parks

If you’re looking for a sweet urban retreat, Descanso Gardens and LA Arboretum are now open by reservation, so you can plan your visit and take your time enjoying the flora and wildlife. Earnest E. Debs Regional Park 4235 Monterey Road Los Angeles, CA 90032

Ernest E. Debs Regional Park is 300 acre urban oasis on old ranch land in the Arroyo Seco neighborhood just northeast of downtown L.A. The fourth largest park in Los Angeles, the area is home to walnut-oak woodland, grassland, coastal sage scrub, and over 140 species of birds. A five mile loop meanders through almost every section of this dog-friendly park. Along the way, you’ll discover a pond where you can actually go fishing.

Eaton Canyon Natural Area 1750 N. Altadena Dr. Pasadena, CA 91107

Eaton Canyon Natural Area is a natural preserve located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. This scenic 198 acre natural area was originally called “El Precipicio” by Spanish settlers because of its steep gorges, and was later named after Judge Benjamin Eaton, a progressive pioneer who was the first to use irrigation from Eaton creek to grow grapes on the slopes. Visitors can explore Eaton Canyon’s expansive hiking and equestrian trails, seasonal streams, and abundant native plants.

Will Rogers State Historic Park 1501 Will Rogers State Park Rd. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272

Will Rogers was one of the most popular and highest paid actors in Hollywood and “America’s most beloved citizen.” During the 1920s, he bought land in Santa Monica, where he developed a ranch. Eventually, Will Rogers owned about 359 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in what is now known as the Pacific Palisades. After Rogers passed away, his widow Betty donated the ranch to California State Parks in 1944 and it became a state historic park. Hikers can enjoy a moderate 2-mile loop to and from Inspiration Point. The Rivas Canyon Trail also provides a moderate 2.1 mile hike to Temescal Gateway Park. Adventurous hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians can tackle the Backbone Trail National Trail into the Santa Monica Mountains, which can take you 70 miles all the way to Point Mugu. 

Point Mugu State Park 9000 West Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265

Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. In all, there are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.

Topanga State Park 20828 Entrada Rd, Topanga, CA 90290

Located in the cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains, Topanga State Park features 36 miles of trails through open grassland, live oaks and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The park is located entirely within the Los Angeles city limits and is considered the world’s largest wildland within the boundaries of a major city. The park is bound on the south by Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, on the west by Topanga Canyon, and on the east by Rustic Canyon. Numerous geologic formations can be found in the park, including earthquake faults, marine fossils, volcanic intrusions, and a wide variety of sedimentary formations.

LA Aboretum 301 N Baldwin Ave Arcadia, CA 91007

The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a unique 127-acre botanical garden and historical site located in what was the heart of the historic Rancho Santa Anita in the city of Arcadia. Did you know The Arboretum is also an official wildlife sanctuary. In addition to the famous peafowl, visitors will see species of resident and migratory birds, aquatic creatures, and numerous species of small reptiles and mammals. Tickets are now limited to preserve safe distancing and all indoor spaces are closed. Members are required to reserve free tickets. Non-members must buy advance tickets online to ensure entry.

Descanso Gardens 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011

Descanso Gardens is an urban retreat of year-round natural beauty, internationally renowned botanical collections, and spectacular seasonal horticultural displays, located just 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. The principal collections include California native plants and oak woodlands; one of the largest collections of camellias in the Western Hemisphere; a rose garden with specimens from all corners of the globe; and significant presentations of lilacs, maple trees, cherry trees and iris. Members can enter without an advance ticket, but visitors who are not members and guests not covered under a membership will need advance tickets with timed entry.

A true DTLA treasure, The Last Bookstore is California’s largest used and new book and record store, housed in a stunning 22,000 square-foot space in the Spring Arts Tower. According to owner Josh Spencer, the name was chosen with irony, but seems more appropriate with each passing day, as physical bookstores die out like dinosaurs from the meteoric impact of Amazon and e-books. In addition to over 250,000 new and used books on two floors, including the Arts & Rare Book Annex, you’ll also find tens of thousands of vinyl records and graphic novels. Curbside service is limited to bundle customers. If you’re looking for a specific title, please order from the online web store and your books will be shipped right to your door.

Now Serving Far East Plaza 727 N. Broadway #133 Los Angeles, CA 90012

Founded by Ken Concepcion, former chef de cuisine at Wolfgang Puck’s CUT, and his wife Michelle Mungcal, Now Serving carries a melange of new and used cookbooks, including out of print editions. The cookbooks are organized in geographical departments such as the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Europe, and categories like pastries and baking, beverages, general food writing, and reference books. Since its founding in 1963, Hennessey + Ingalls has grown to become the largest art, architecture and design bookstore in the Western United States. Artbook @Hauser & Wirth is an arts and culture bookstore located inside the Hauser Wirth & Schimmel gallery in the DTLA Arts District. The bookstore offers a wide range of topics including art, photography, architecture & design, film, music, fashion and more. Hauser & Wirth opened its Los Angeles location in 2016 in a former flour mill. In addition to supporting and collaborating with many local and international cultural organizations, nonprofits, and universities, the Los Angeles gallery fosters public dialogue with the arts through a range of activities that engage the city’s diverse population. The Library Store 630 W 5th St, Los Angeles, CA 90071

The Library Store is operated by the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, which provides critical support to the Los Angeles Public Library resulting in free programs, resources, and services available to the millions of adults, children, and youth in Los Angeles. Through fundraising, advocacy, and innovative programs, the Library Foundation strengthens the Los Angeles Public Library and promotes greater awareness of its valuable resources. DTLA Craft Breweries Now Offer Pick Up & Delivery

Now that the weather is getting warmer, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as an ice cold beer! Thanks to the passion and dedication of local brewers and suds lovers with a mission, our city is awash in topflight craft breweries. From great lagers to awesome ales, sumptuous stouts, and hoppy IPAs, you’ll find it all in DTLA. And now is the perfect time to support local businesses, while getting your beer buzz on! Frogtown Brewery 2931 Gilroy St. Los Angeles, CA 90039

An independent craft brewery and tap room along the L.A. River, Frogtown Brewery is owned by long time friends and home brewers Adam and Mike, who had the crazy dream to one day open their own brewery. After many years of hard work and planning, they finally made Frogtown Brewery a reality! Although the taproom is currently closed for on-site beer consumption, Frogtown Brewery is offering some fun flavors including Painkiller Milkshake, Nebula Fog, and more for pick up at the brewery or delivery within a 10-mile radius.  

Boomtown Brewery 700 Jackson St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

In the mid-1800s, the boomtowns of California were points of convergence for those lured by potential riches and discovery. Today, Los Angeles maintains a similar allure for those who move in every year to pursue their dreams. Boomtown Brewery was founded to speak to that audience and showcase their commitment to the arts and the DTLA Arts District. Boomtown Brewery’s taproom may be temporarily closed, but you can order online for safe pick up at their loading dock daily from 12-7 pm. And if you’re working up an appetite, Corazon La sets up shop every Taco Tuesday from 12-6pm with wood fired meats & tortillas made to order from fresh masa.

Highland Park Brewery 1220 N Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90012

HPB, as the brewery is affectionately known, was founded with the goal of making excellent beer in LA, focusing on fresh hoppy beers, lagers, and mixed culture fermentation, using local ingredients. The tasting room is currently closed, but HPB has recently expanded their delivery zones. If you’re not in their zone, you can also pick up your order from their Chinatown location. Indie Brewing Company was founded by four guys who set out to give L.A. amazing local beer and the tasting room it so deserves – a casual spot where people could hang out with other beer lovers and watch bands, talk about sports, and maybe even do a little trivia night. The Palace of Versailles is one of the most visited cultural sites in the world today.

Stonehenge

The Urubamba River flows past it, cutting through the Cordillera and creating a canyon with a tropical mountain climate.

Angkor Wat, 12th century CE, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. The temple is at the pinnacle of the high classical style of Khmer architecture, and has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag and is the country’s prime attraction for visitors.

Basílica de la Sagrada Família, Barcelona, Spain

The Basílica Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is a large Roman Catholic church designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí that has become the symbol of Barcelona, Spain. Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed it a minor basilica. Construction of Sagrada Família had commenced in 1882 and Gaudí became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted his last years to the project.
