Beer Bible: Circa Reviews DTLA’s Acclaimed Craft Breweries

The craft beer craze has taken Los Angeles by storm, and DTLA is home to some of the best brews around. According to the LA Brewers Guild, 31 LA Breweries took home 56 medals in the 2026 Brewers Cup of California. The LA Brewers Guild was also awarded Brewers Guild of the Year for the third time! The competition is organized by Sacramento Area Brewers Guild, in partnership with the brewers guilds of California. This massive volume of unique beers includes everything from award-winning stouts to regional seasonal IPAs, found In every corner of downtown, many not far from Circa. A chilled brew is also the perfect summer thirst quencher. So let’s hoist a cold one in DTLA!

Arts District Brewing Company took home three Golds from the 2026 Brewers Cup of California: Hydro Thunder (American Pilseners); Pleasure To Burn (Historical Beers); and Kindling (Smoked Beers). Opened in November 2022 in the former Modern Times Dankness Dojo space, Native Son LA features two distinct bar experiences. The front bar offers a “fine-diving” atmosphere with draft beer, packaged macro brews, slushies, and draft cocktails. On weekends, the back bar provides a craft cocktail experience, featuring both original Native Son creations and custom drinks made by their bartenders. Sharing the brewpub is House of Wings, serving wings and comfort food, and Ikasu Brewing, their on-site brewery, crafting award-winning beers.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company is a San Diego-based chain with an interesting story. Born in 1912 in Minden, Germany, Karl Strauss was immersed in the brewing world from an early age, playing among beer barrels and hops at his father’s brewery. He attended the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan and earned a Master Brewing certification at age 19. After emigrating to America in 1939, he embarked on a consulting career. Flash forward: In 1986 San Diego was void of the thriving beer scene it has today. Chris Cramer (Karl’s cousin) and college buddy Matt Rattner dreamed of bringing local, handcrafted beer to San Diego. With the help of Brewmaster Karl Strauss himself, in 1989 the first Karl Strauss Brewing Company opened in downtown San Diego. The DTLA location is a popular happy hour spot, serving American bar food with a gourmet twist, alongside house-brewed craft ales.

An independent craft brewery and tap room along the L.A. River, Frogtown Brewery was recently named one of the 50 Fastest Growing Breweries in the United States by the Brewers Association. We’re in the midst of a beer boom! Los Angeles County craft breweries recently took home 45 awards from the Brewers Cup of California, including 16 gold medals and a second consecutive Guild of the Year award. DTLA’s Angel City Brewery and Arts District Brewing Co received top honors in multiple categories. You can sample many of the winners during LA Beer Week (June 14-22) and Los Angeles Independent Beer Fest on June 14, featuring the largest number of Los Angeles County-based craft breweries, live music, great local food, games, and more. Founded in 1997, Angel City Brewing quickly became a leader in the LA craft beer scene. In 2004 Angel City bought an 8,000 barrel German-made brewery in Alpine Village near Los Angeles and lovingly restored the facility. In late 2010, Angel City relocated the brewery to the historic John A. Roebling Building in the DTLA Arts District. The vision was, and remains, to give this great city a great brewery.

With craft beer as their roots, Native Son’s owners felt they could not pass up the opportunity to expand into their new Downtown location, noting that they have always loved the atmosphere and feel of the Dojo, and wanted to preserve its unique style. Join them for house-brewed beers, creative seltzers, and unique seltzer cocktails. And Native Son is now home to House of Wings LA.

Los Angeles has a storied history of wine-making – in fact, LA was once called the “city of vines.” Commercial winemaking began in downtown Los Angeles when Jean-Louis Vignes built his winery around a 400 year old sycamore near today’s Union Station. Throughout the 19th century, many acres of grapevines grew right where contemporary landmarks now stand, and a number of downtown streets are named after old winemakers. Today, award-winning artisanal wineries are producing throughout the region, including Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Bel Air, Malibu, and even DTLA near Circa.

Boomtown Brewery was founded to speak to that audience and showcase their commitment to the arts and the DTLA Arts District. Boomtown Brewery’s taproom may be temporarily closed, but you can order online for safe pick up at their loading dock daily from 12-7 pm. And if you’re working up an appetite, Corazon La sets up shop every Taco Tuesday from 12-6pm with wood fired meats & tortillas made to order from fresh masa.

Highland Park Brewery 1220 N Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90012

HPB, as the brewery is affectionately known, was founded with the goal of making excellent beer in LA, focusing on fresh hoppy beers, lagers, and mixed culture fermentation, using local ingredients. The tasting room is currently closed, but HPB has recently expanded their delivery zones. If you’re not in their zone, you can also pick up your order from their Chinatown location. Indie Brewing Company was founded by four guys who set out to give L.A. amazing local beer and the tasting room it so deserves – a casual spot where people could hang out with other beer lovers and watch bands, talk about sports, and maybe even do a little trivia night. While on-premise consumption of beer and food is temporarily suspended, Modern Times Dankness Dojo DTLA is offering to-go pickups for beer, food, and coffee, including beer shipping in California, and merch and coffee shipping nationwide. Located in DTLA’s Little Tokyo, Mumford Brewing is a microbrewery and tap room, serving a small offering of various snacks. Although the taproom is currently closed, Mumford Brewing is offering to-go beer sales out of their window on Boyd Street. DTLA Restaurants & Bars Are Offering Pick Up and Delivery!

Bestia

Both Bestia and Bavel are offering takeout family-style menus so that they can continue to provide health insurance benefits for their staff. Chef Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis will be creating new menus weekly, specifically meant to be enjoyed at home. Prepaid orders will be available for curbside pick up 3-8pm Wednesday through Sunday. Bestia is a multi-regional rustic Italian restaurant focusing on a “from scratch” approach, offering house-made charcuterie, in addition to handmade pastas and pizza made in an Acunto oven. On the pastry side, Gergis’ desserts focus on a clean and simple approach to create a daily changing menu that is centered on the freshest, most local ingredients possible.

Bavel

Located in Downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District, Bavel is a Middle Eastern restaurant from Bestia’s Chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis. With family roots in Israel, Morocco, Turkey, and Egypt, Ori and Genevieve always wanted to open a restaurant that showcases the cuisines of their family lineages, bringing together the flavors and dishes they grew up with. The name Bavel stems from the story of Babel, from the original Old Testament. The story of Bavel is from a time when the Middle East was one. The people of Babylon came together to build a tower to heaven, but God didn’t want the tower to succeed. He gave the people different languages so they could no longer communicate and work together. When Ori and Genevieve read this story, the word Bavel resonated with them, because it was written during a time when everything was one.

Zinc Cafe & Market

Zinc Cafe & Market is offering take-out and delivery services. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner are available, and their marketplace has an abundance of prepared foods such as salads, entrees, appetizers and desserts to enjoy at home. Stock up on staples at Go Get Em Tiger, sister shop to G&B Coffee. Go Get Em Tiger has defined itself naturally by the way in which coffee, food, and community intersect fluidly. Red Herring LA

DTLA’s Red Herring is offering takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery from 11am to 9pm daily. Founded by husband and wife team Chef Dave Woodall and Alexis Martin Woodall, Red Herring offers Refined New American cuisine with global influences. Faith & Flower

Faith & Flower is a contemporary Los Angeles restaurant located in the Watermarke Tower in DTLA’s South Park district. The restaurant’s name pays homage to the two major Renaissance periods – the 1920s and modern day – that have fundamentally shaped the Downtown Los Angeles community. “Flower” refers to the street on which the restaurant lies today, and “Faith” for the street’s alleged name during the early 1920s. Hollyhock House Virtual Tour

The newly renovated Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, Hollyhock House, was recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The virtual tour was originally developed as a Virtual Accessibility Experience (VAE) to increase access to the monument, and to create immersive and inclusive experiences for visitors of all abilities.

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul

Since opening its door in 1969, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) has established itself as a representative institution of Korean modern art. The museum’s four branches carry out MMCA’s commitment to the art and culture of Korea by enriching the first-hand cultural experience of the viewing public. Through its various locations, MMCA intends to function as a cultural platform that encourages communication and cross-pollination of contemporary art with other various disciplines of art, science, and humanities.

National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City

Explore this museum and you’ll find at its center at huge pond underneath a vast square concrete structure supported by a single pillar known as el paraguas, or the umbrella. Around this are 23 exhibit rooms displaying treasures, including Mayan civilization artifacts such as the Stone of the Sun and giant stone heads that were found in the jungles of Tabasco and Veracruz.

MASP, São Paulo

This architectural landmark in São Paulo was designed by Lina Bo Bardi and is Brazil’s first modern museum. The floating design is mirrored in its internal art displays, with its collection of artworks suspended in perspex frames that create the illusion that the canvases are hovering above the ground.
