By a twist of fate, the park’s treasures were sealed in 44 shipping containers and forgotten in Texas—until now. Housed within a 60,000-square-foot warehouse complex, Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy unravels the tale of the most fantastical fairground the world has ever known. The immersive experience invites visitors of all ages to feast their eyes on rides and attractions rescued from the original 1987 park while learning how Luna Luna was created, lost, and reborn through story-driven installations.

Conceived by Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe, Dover Street Market is a place for creators from various fields to gather, encounter and collide with each other in a burgeoning atmosphere of beautiful chaos.

This exhibition spotlights imaginative porcelain ramen bowls and spoons designed by 30 world-renowned artists. Seen for the first time outside of Japan, the exhibition includes a giant ramen bowl created by well-known Japanese plastic food sample manufacturer Iwasaki Mokei, and an introduction to the noodle dish itself and to ceramics from Mino, a major Japanese ceramics center for over 500 years. The fully immersive experience includes programs such as special ramen pop-ups in the Japan House restaurant space, films, and educational webinars.

DTLA Ramen offers Japanese ramen with a modern California spin. You have a choice of broth for your ramen, including pork, chicken, vegetarian, soy milk, and no broth at all, with a selection of add ons, such as ground spicy chicken, spicy miso paste, injected egg, or hard boiled egg, and chashu belly. In true DTLA spirit, the restaurant offers interesting craft beers, with an emphasis on Japanese brews.

Ramen Hood is a chef-driven destination vegan ramen shop located in Downtown LA’s historic Grand Central Market. The food is one hundred percent vegan, with broth made by simmering kelp and shiitake mushrooms to extract their maximum umami. The “egg” is completely vegan, made in two parts. The “white” of the egg starts as locally made GMO-free soy milk, seasoned with salt and pepper and gelled with agar, a seaweed extract. The “yolk” is a combination of nutritional yeast, back salt and sodium alginate, which is spherified and placed it in the center of the white so that the yolk pops just like the real thing.

Tokyo’s famous Afuri recently opened in DTLA after initially expanding to the Portland, Oregon area. The menu centers around their signature bowl of Yuzu Shio ramen – a light, delicate broth built upon a reduction made from local chicken, dry fish”niboshi” “katsuobushi”, dry konbu seaweed, and vegetables to produce a layer of umami flavors, and hints of refreshing yuzu citrus. The kitchen uses the same techniques employed in their central kitchen at the foot of Afuri mountain in Japan.

Born and raised in Japan, Yayoi Kusama has consistently created artwork about repetition and the concept of infinity. Celebrating the recent opening of the final phase of its Chinese Garden, The Huntington presents an exhibition of contemporary Chinese calligraphy as the inaugural installation in the garden’s new art gallery, the Studio for Lodging the Mind. The exhibition is designed to illuminate the art form and foster deeper appreciation of its expressive qualities. The works on view comprise the original calligraphic scrolls that served as the models for inscriptions throughout the garden. LA’s first dumpling pop-up art exhibit! Thirst Project is teaming up with ZJZM, a creative art label, to bring you Dumplings & Associates, a one of a kind pop-up art museum in DTLA. Explore interactive art installations based on dumplings and their associates, including a giant garlic swing, an anti-gravity kitchen, dumpling jacuzzi and a simulated meat grinder. You may not actually be able to eat the dumplings, but each pair of tickets to Dumplings & Associates provides three people one year of clean drinking water!

Launched in June of 2016, Smorgasburg LA has become the largest weekly open-air food market in Los Angeles, attracting 8,000 to 12,000 attendees every Sunday, year round. Located on the five-acre site of the weekday 7th Street Produce Market in ROW DTLA, Smorgasburg LA features over 90 food vendors, a beer garden offering local craft beer and micheladas, live DJs, cultural events, pop-ups, and sophisticated shopping including design, craft, style, vintage, wellness, and more.
