Today, outdoor movies are more popular than ever, with parks, rooftops, and even a cemetery popping up screens, some just a short distance from Circa. Many venues offer food trucks and concession stands, or you can bring your own moveable feast. Check websites for movie schedules, tickets, and other details.

Select your seats, grab a drink, and snack on classic cinema concessions. Rooftop Cinema Club provides you with a comfy lawn chair (and optional blankets for purchase). When the film begins, you’ll be able to live completely in the movie moments with personal headphones and an amazing view of the big screen.

Movie screenings are held outdoors on Fairbanks Lawn, an open grassy field inside Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Bring blankets, pillows or low chairs that have a seat that rests on the ground with a low back. A small tarp underneath your blanket is recommended since the ground can get damp. You are welcome to pack your own picnic with food, beer and wine, but no hard liquor is permitted. They also sell food onsite. A DJ will be spinning music as the sun sets, and again after the movie. Sorry – only ESA and service dogs on leashes are welcome at the screenings.

Circa Raises a Pint to LA’s Award-Winning Craft Brewers

We’re in the midst of a beer boom! Los Angeles County craft breweries recently took home 45 awards from the Brewers Cup of California, including 16 gold medals and a second consecutive Guild of the Year award. DTLA’s Angel City Brewery and Arts District Brewing Co received top honors in multiple categories. You can sample many of the winners during LA Beer Week (June 14-22) and Los Angeles Independent Beer Fest on June 14, featuring the largest number of Los Angeles County-based craft breweries, live music, great local food, games, and more. Founded in 1997, Angel City Brewing quickly became a leader in the LA craft beer scene. In 2004 Angel City bought an 8,000 barrel German-made brewery in Alpine Village near Los Angeles and lovingly restored the facility. In late 2010, Angel City relocated the brewery to the historic John A. Roebling Building in the DTLA Arts District. The vision was, and remains, to give this great city a great brewery.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company is a San Diego-based chain with an interesting story. Born in 1912 in Minden, Germany, Karl Strauss was immersed in the brewing world from an early age, playing among beer barrels and hops at his father’s brewery. He attended the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan and earned a Master Brewing certification at age 19. After emigrating to America in 1939, he embarked on a consulting career. Flash forward: In 1986 San Diego was void of the thriving beer scene it has today. Chris Cramer (Karl’s cousin) and college buddy Matt Rattner dreamed of bring local, handcrafted beer back to San Diego. With the help of Brewmaster Karl Strauss himself, in 1989 the first Karl Strauss Brewing Company opened in downtown San Diego. The DTLA location is a popular happy hour spot, serving American bar food with a gourmet twist, alongside house-brewed craft ales.

Bike MS Los Angeles Coastal Challenge

May 17-18 Bike MS: Los Angeles Coastal Challenge is a two-day ride with routes along the Southern California coastline. To avoid disrupting rebuilding efforts following the Palisades Fire, all routes will start and end in Ventura. Each year, nearly 40,000 cyclists and more than 4,000 teams participate around the country for people with MS. With the fundraising support of each cyclist, the National MS Society can continue its work of funding cutting-edge research for a cure, drive change through advocacy, and provide programs and services to help people affected by MS live their best lives.

CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization that catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation, and good health through car-free street events. CicLAvia engages with people to transform our relationship with our communities and with each other. Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, CicLAvia temporarily closes streets to car traffic and opens them to Angelenos to use as a public park. Free for all, CicLAvia connects communities to each other across an expansive city, creating a safe place to bike, walk, skate, roll, and dance through Los Angeles County. Circa’s Spring Tour of LA’s Gorgeous Gardens

April is Earth Month, a global movement founded in 1970 that was inspired by Earth Day. And we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than touring LA’s gorgeous gardens and communing with nature. The Huntington, Descanso Gardens, and LA Arboretum are in full bloom, with vivid displays of lilacs, wisteria, roses, and California native plants. Our city is rich with unexpected delights, such as Arlington Garden in Pasadena and Virginia Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills. We even found some secret gardens “hidden in plain sight” not far from Circa, like the Blue Ribbon Garden at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Exposition Park Rose Garden, considered one of the most important public-display rose gardens in the state.

Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden was created by Kinzuchi Fujii for Charles and Ellamae Storrier Stearns in 1935. Fujii designed and built Japanese landscapes across Southern California in the first half of the 20th century. Storrier Stearns is his only remaining garden and the only intact example of a major Japanese-style garden created before World War II for a residence in Southern California. This pond-style stroll garden features a fifteen-foot waterfall and a formal teahouse on approximately two acres of land. The garden is considered by many to be a masterwork and it demonstrates the adaptability of Japanese culture in modern America.
